Working from home can be a herculean task! There’s always something that gets in the way, e.g. house chores, distraction from kids, your favorite TV show and of course your comfy bed. It’s easy to think ‘I could just do this later’, but, often, ’later’ gets pushed back further and further And in the long run, procrastination reduces the level of productivity.

Therefore there is a great need to find a balance between work and your personal life. Here are some tips on how to stay productive whilst working from home.

1. Schedule Your Working Hours

Treat your working hours like you would if you were actually at work and be dedicated during the said hours. This does not need to be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday, because one of the benefits of working from is the flexibility that comes with it. Having a fixed structure helps to keep your “ducks in a row”. However, don’t be too hard on yourself when setting up your hours, it’s very important to set SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and timely) goals which is really helpful in drawing up a realistic plan/schedule because distractions are inevitable.

2. Discuss Your Schedule With Others And Set Boundaries

It is a good idea to talk your schedule over with your family members or whoever you are locked in with. They need to understand that there is a need for boundaries, ground rules and you cannot afford to be distracted or disturbed and as such there is limit to which you can attend to their every need and demand.

3. Exercise & Self Care

Remember you are not a machine/robot! Give yourself a break and chill out .Keep yourself hydrated, eat healthily and ensure you get enough rest. This is rally as be need to be conscious of our physical and mental health ;go for a walk outside once a day, if you are not able to go outside, just open your windows and try your best to do some light exercise at home. Starting a strenuous new form of exercise amidst a Pandemic is not a great idea; you don’t want to put yourself in a situation where by you have to see a doctor

4. Prioritize Social Interactions

Don’t underestimate the importance of social interactions, as it is the only way to have any form of human connection t both for your own mental well-being and that of others, and for your work. Schedule times to catch up with your colleagues, friends and family. They are just one phone call/text message away, you might be in isolation, but you are not alone.

So whatever side of the pond you find yourself in the work from home matrix, being productive is something that is very critical to delivering any level of decent work. Hopefully these would have pointed and nudged you down the road of productivity
