The Citizens handed shocking 2-1 defeat of the high flying Dannaz team that quickly changed the mood and atmosphere around the club, with everyone associated with the Citizens very optimistic for the first time in the season after being rock bottom in the Island Conference with zero points from a possible nine and just one goal scored after three matches.
“Revival” is one word that has been met with a lot of negativity over the last 7 months, no thanks to Eminem’s underwhelming 7th solo studio album. In The SociaLiga, however, “Revival” is the one word that has been met with a lot of positivity, thanks to Citizens FC.
Dannaz have gone and built on their solid opening day display. They just had their winning/unbeaten streak snapped by Citizens but prior to that, they set a SociaLiga record of 4 consecutive wins to start the season, a feat never achieved before.

With their backs against the wall & in desperate need of a miracle to save their playoff hopes, attacker, Bobo was the hero of the day in one of the biggest upsets in SociaLiga’s 3-year history. Bobo grabbed a brace to put Citizens 2-0 and send their fans running wild in the stands. First, he hit a ferocious shot into the back of the net and then he displayed the calmness of a veteran surgeon by coolly slotting home his second. Dannaz responded by launching several attacks and Joshua Obakimi pulled one back but Citizens held on for their first competitive win since the 6th of May, 2017. Earlier in the day, defending champions, Saints FC had bounced back from consecutive defeats (both to Dannaz FC) to pick up a 3-1 win over Alphas FC. The result meant Saints FC have now qualified for the playoffs for a record 3 times in a row & with one more spot in the Island Conference up for grabs, Alphas & Citizens have to battle right to the end.
If Citizens ever needed a miracle, if ever they needed the divine intervention from the Man upstairs, it’s on Matchday 4. Dannaz FC are on a mission to obliterate everything in their way with their eyes firmly on the prize; the title in December. Their 4 consecutive wins to start the season is a new SociaLiga record and it not only feels like they could go the entire Regular Season unbeaten, it’s starting to look like they could do it without dropping a point.

Twenty-nine years ago, The Nature Boy, Ric Flair uttered one of the most profound statements by a competitor; to be THE man, you gotta beat THE man. It appeared simplistic on the surface but with three decades gone by, those nine words still sink deep into the heart(s) of anyone looking to uncrown the king. […]
