Bet9jaSociaLiga MatchDay 1 : What We Learned So Far

The 2019 Bet9jaSociaLiga season gave us 25 goals on Matchday 1. The were comebacks, penalties, screamers and stunning saves with just 1 draw from 6 matches played. Players like Obakimi Joshua (Dannaz), Chizzy (Royals) and Tomison (Raineri) were on very good form to deliver the trills all day at CIS Lekki. Here are #aFewThings we learned from the games.

Game 1 : Cubs v Raineri

Cubs, striker Clamzee finished off a well worked chance to give them a 2-0 lead just before halftime. The second half was a completely different challenge as Raineri completely turned things around. Cubs were pegged back in their half for much of the second half, with Raineri eventually getting the three goals they needed to complete a comeback and walk away with the win. 3-2. What a start!

Cubs have fitness issues
They seemed to run out of gas by the 10th minute of the second half and after taking a 2 goal lead, you really dont want that to happen. They gave Raineri some more space to push for their comeback and yes Raineri pushed for the comeback and yes they got it.

Tomisin makes Raineri tick
It was not just his man-of-the-match performance. It was how he was at the centre of everything good they did. The passing. The closing down. The determination. He was there all through and his team knew it. You can see how the celebrated with him after one of their goals.

Both defences need work
Both teams conceded goals that should not be conceded normally. In general, a tight game was expected but clearly it wasn’t the case due to individual errors or team errors. The game turned out being very very open and free flowing, which in itself is a good thing because hey, we are here for the goals too!!!!!

Game 2 : Dannaz v Royals

Defending Champions, Dannaz FC, played out a thrilling 3-3 draw against returning Royals FC blowing a 2-0 lead and a 3-2 lead to the fury of star striker Obakimi Joshua who scored two of their goals. Royals showed great character to keep coming back.

Obakimi will score.
Obakimi Joshua will be in the Golden Boot race: He took his goals well and always looked dangerous. He seemed fearless of anyone in the Royals back line and ran at them all day long. Whenever he hit the floor, he got back up again!! and again!!

Chizzy will be key for Royals this season
If 3 key contributions are a sign of things to come, then flambouyant midfielder Chizzy is going to be LIT this season. He put in a man of the match performance to bring them back into the game, laying on two assists for his teammates before slotting the equalising goal from the penalty spot at the death. If he can deliver on every match day then our next point will be MAJOR! 1 Goal amd 2 Assists! We are waiting for more.

Royals will be no pushovers this season
They showed great character to come back twice against the defending champions. It is one thing to comeback once, but to do it again against a team that blitz through the league last year is not a lean feat. We wait to see more of Royals and the man who led the comeback Chizzy.

Game 3 : Knights Ladies v Alimosho Ladies

It was a tough contest between two evenly-matched side who struggled to create against each other. It took a moment of genius from Deborah for the two sides to be separated. The defending champions have their work cut out for them as the opening day defeat already puts them under pressure as they look to defend their 2018 title.

Knights Ladies Are Struggling.
They never looked in control of the game. Knights Ladies will find retaining their title tough looking at their performance. Alimosho came down the right side time and time again, and Knights Ladies were bypassed by easily

Alimosho Ladies Are Strong.
Alimosho Ladies have a strong right side. Most of their attacks were down that side and they looked dangerous. Time and time again they went that route and each time they blitz past the Knight Ladies. The Bet9jaSocaLiga Female League is going to be very tight this season.

Strong Defending
Alimosho Ladies are looking great in defence. Now whether it is because Knights Ladies were struggling or because Alimosho outplayed them in that department only time will tell. But for MD1, they snuffed out threats with ease. Cool, Calm, Dominating.
