Bet9jaSociaLiga MatchDay 1 : What We Learned So Far II

The 2019 Bet9jaSociaLiga season gave us 25 goals on Matchday 1. The were comebacks, penalties, screamers and stunning saves with just 1 draw from 6 matches played. Players like Obakimi Joshua (Dannaz), Chizzy (Royals) and Tomison (Raineri) were on very good form to deliver the trills all day at CIS Lekki. Here are #aFewThings we learned from the games.

Game 4 : Dannaz Ladies v Saints Ladies:

Both sides missed multiple opportunities to score and the first half ended 1-0. The heat was turned all the way up in the second half as both sides increased the tempo and from then on we had a wonderful game.

Dannaz Ladies look ready for the title challenge
If this game is anything to go by, then Dannaz Ladies should be regarded as early favourites. They were excellent all game long, completely dominating the game and imposing themselves. They looked really solid, and it is hard to see any team stopping them this season.

Saints Ladies are going to be a threat.
The defeat was harsh on Saints Ladies who put in a valiant effort and caused Dannaz Ladies a lot of trouble all game. They attacked with purpose and certainly look like they can be troublesome to any team.

Blessing is a star
The woman is simply majestic! The way she glided around the pitch, running the game was reminiscent of a young Mercy Akide. She was on the scoresheet but it was her overall play that caught the eye.

Game 5 : Saints v Alimosho

Defending Champions, Dannaz FC, played out a thrilling 3-3 draw against returning Royals FC blowing a 2-0 lead and a 3-2 lead to the fury of star striker Obakimi Joshua who scored two of their goals. Royals showed great character to keep coming back.

Saints look as solid as ever.
Saints FC have vowed to take back the title this season and their opening game showed how seriously they are taking the new season. They already look like a tough team to come up against. Alimosho FC learnt the hard way.

Alimosho barely create from open play.
If Alimosho are to do anything memorable in this Liga season, they have to sort out their attack. It is priority. Their attackers were starved of service and Saints FC dealt with all their threats comfortably.

Yinka Odiro is ready to star
Yinka was one of the standout performers in the game and it looks like he is ready to take centre stage for Saints FC this season. His second goal was simply magical but so was his overall play. The man is brimming with confidence.

Game 6 : Guns v All Black

It was another game full of goals as The Guns ran out 4-3 winners in an exhilarating encounter. The game saw a man of the match performance from Skarra, who finished with two goals and inspired The CUbs to come back from 2-0 to lead 4-2. All Black FC grabbed a late consolation goal but they ran out of time. 4-3, it ended.

Scoring alone does not do the job, defence matters.
It is remarkable that All Black FC scored as many as 3 goals and still lost this game. If there is any conclusion to draw from this, it is that defence absolutely matters. Scoring three goals may no longer guarantee wins at SociaLiga.

Skarra will be a golden boot contender.
There aren’t many forwards as domineering as the man many simply call ‘Skarra’. The striker was menacing all game and showed glimpses of his ability, putting All Black to the sword a couple of times. He will definitely be in the Golden Boot race.

All Black need to work on aerial battles
All Black look very weak in the air. Many coaches who saw this game must have made mental notes to take advantage of this glaring weakness. They lost a lot of aerial duels which Guns FC capitalised on. They have to be wary and work on it.
