Bet9jaSociaLiga coaches were given a run for their money by SociaLiga Staff Football club, SSFC, with their players watching from the stands.
It ended in tears for the coaches as they suffered a 2-1 defeat despite dominating proceedings from start to finish.
Legendary forward, Ibaru Kunle and former coach of Bet9jaSociaLiga side, Guns FC, Tomi Akigbogun, netted both goals for the Aliu Animashaun Avenue, Lekki Phase One based SSFC.
For the coaches, Guns boss, Ifedotun scored what turned out to be a consolation goal for his side.
There were plenty of skills and thrills on show, even though the match didn’t start on an exciting note until the SociaLiga Staff found the breakthrough.
The SSFC stars let slip their lead initially, but regained it later on and held on as it ended in a famous win for the Lekki team.
A disappointing result for the Dugout Men, who created a lot of chances to have won the match comfortably but simply were profligate in front of goal and didn’t look as organised as one would have thought.
Speaking on their performance, SSFC star and SociaLiga COO, Ibaru admitted that the coaches outplayed the staff but winning was all that mattered.
“As a senior man, ” Ibaru started after he was reminded about his goal. “It (our performance) was poor, though. They clearly outplayed us, but we won, and that’s what matters.”
Goalkeeper of the side and in-house graphics designer, Olamide, who made some outstanding saves, also added his voice, saying Manchester United goalkeeper, David De Gea “has nothing on me”.
“De Gea has nothing on me, i made some wicked saves and clearances. But they wanted to kill us. Those coaches dribbled our lives, We were just absorbing the game and wasn’t giving them space in the box – Forcing them to take shots from outside, if they could, ” Olamide said.
For the coaches, Citizens boss, Adedoyin Ajibike said;
“It was a good game. We shouldn’t have lost but these things happen. We’ll be better next time.”
Cubs coach, Deco had a very good opportunity to equalise for the coaches but his nerves failed him and he missed gloriously.
On his miss, the Cubs boss, Deco gives a shalaye excuse; “(Laughs). The ball didn’t connect well, ” he said.
In terms of outstanding performances from both sides, apart from the net bursters for SSFC, Ibaru and Tomi, Olamide, Chike, Head of Football, Laolu, Head of Marketing, David, and Seyi were others who did the sportainment coy proud at Campus Mini.
For the coaches, Citizens assistant manager, Oriola aka Lord Oreos, and Raineri’s Slyvester Ayere were singled out for praise by some of the guests who watched the match.
The highlight of the day was reserved for the goofy Sugar Mommy of Lagos, Teni the Entertainer who celebrated wildly after netting a wonderfully calm penalty.
A superb spice to the overall flavour of the third SociaLympics, tagged the GokadaSociaLympics as The SociaLiga once again proved to be More Than A Game!
