I started playing football at a very young age growing up in Bariga, Lagos and even when my parents and I relocated to the outskirts of Lagos and I still kept up playing ball. I first gained interest in football when I used to watch my uncles play ball in the street and I remember always feeling fascinated when they played. As I grew older, football is became my safe haven because the moment I start playing football for that period of time I have no worries. Today I am Defensive midfielder for Saints FC and a medical doctor.
My hero in life is my father and I know that I would be a good man if I can be half the man he is. In football on the other hand, I have always admired Zinedine Zidane. I remember even as a kid I would buy “Best of Zidane” CDs back then and watch it over and over! He was incredible and influenced my love of football immensely and now football is like life for me.
Some of the highest highs and lowest lows in my life are because of football. For example, one of my all-time treasured memories is captaining my school team to victory in the Nigerian Medical Student Association (NIMSA) games and one of my proudest moments is playing in the Lagos National League. On the flip side, one of my least favourite times was when I had a knee injury that kept me out of the pitch for almost a year. Like I said earlier, Football is like life for me.
I love my teammates and I respect all my opponents. That being said, my favourite teammate is Dolapo Babatunde because he is so funny. He is basically the teams personal Broda Shagi. My favourite opponent on the other hand is Royals FC because we have a long history and rivalry but my current worst opponent in SociaLiga has to be Dannaz fc. Let just say they are our “latest rivals.”
My only pre-match routine before every game is that I say a short prayer. Some players have more elaborate routines but it is the only thing I need and it inspires me for the game. I don’t like losing (not sure anybody does) so when my team is behind, I tend to want to put my life on the line to make sure we get back in the game. Also, for me a win is a win because in Saints FC we don’t underrate any opponent. Every victory for us matters but I’m more fulfilled when we beat a tough opposition.
Some personal information about me. When I am not playing football, I would rather hang out with friends or watch a movie. Weirdly, I love football but don’t enjoy playing football video games like FIFA. Also, my favourite food used to be Pounded yam with Vegetable/Egusi soup but I recently started craving White rice with Fried stew or anything that tastes good.
Finally, I feel I must end by answering the most important question in football. Messi is a great player but personally the only correct answer is Ronaldo.
