WrapUp

There was fanfare at the Upbeat Center in Lekki on Saturday as City Boys and 6 other teams celebrated the 5th SociaLiga Anniversary in the most entertaining and stylish fashion.

A total of seven (7) teams made up of five (5) Men and two (2) Women teams came together to celebrate the SociaLiga with City Boys led by the popular Lord Oreos emerging champions.

Inspired by the little known Tope in a rather one-sided final, City Boys who paraded the likes of SociaLiga legends, Ibaru, Doyinbike, and Otubu left none of the spectators in doubt as they completely dominated and destroyed Team Saviour, PiggyVest.

They may be named Saviour but there was nobody to save the PiggyVest team as City Boys produced an attacking masterclass in a 4-0 win.

While all eyes were on the likes of Ibaru, Doyin, and Otubu, it was Tope who stole the show at the Upbeat Center.

The left-footed wide forward dazzled to two of the four goals in the final, taking his tally on the day to four (4) goals which were enough to see him emerge Anniversary top scorer.

Other scorers for City include defender Leroy whose goal came in between Tope’s brace, and Mikolo.

It was also an evening of entertaining artistry in the Women’s category as FK Shorty and Trailblazers kept spectators on their feet.

In their two-legged encounter, the Trailblazers came out victorious after a 4-2 aggregate win thanks to their 2-0 win in the first leg.

The second leg was a more difficult and keenly contested one as Shorty left the pitch with their pride restored after a much better showing.

Leading 2-1, the Shortys were denied by a late goal from Trailblazers Stella as the game ended 2-2.

A very wonderful and memorable day for the SociaLiga, and as they say, once again, it proved to be more than just a game.

Congratulations to the SociaLiga Anniversary Champions, City Boys, and Trailblazers.
