Finally a rival for Bet9ja SociaLiga MatchDay 1

For the first time since SociaLigaMD1, we were blessed with so many goals in the Bet9jaSociaLiga. 22 goals were scored in six (6) matches in the Men’s and Women’s divisions for an average of over 3.66 goals per game. For those who missed the action, here is a complete wrap up of all the entertainment that went down at the beautiful Children’s International School, CIS, Lekki Phase One.

Royals 2 v Guns 2

Royals, Guns share spoils in heated opener

The day’s activity got off to a perfect start as the Royals Football Club hosted the Guns Football Club in a very heated breakfast battle.

Royals came from behind two times to preserve their unbeaten run in an entertaining SociaLigaMD5 opener.

While it was a game of few chances, four goals were however scored with both teams going on to take a share of the spoils as it ended 2-2.

Ariyo Abdullahi netted a brace with this first a superb goal from over 20 yards out to put the Bullet Boys 1-0 up. It was also his first goal of the 2019 campaign.

His goal lasted just a few minutes though as Royals equalised through a controversial penalty scored by Chike Ikeche aka Chizzy to bring scores to 1-1 at the break.

Guns restored their lead with yet another early goal, this time after the restart as that man Ariyo excellently evaded a sea of Royals defenders to put them 2-1 up.

But like the first goal, Guns would be punished once again by Royals who drew level for the second time with Edgar (Anyalogu) netting their second equaliser late on to earn them a point.

Man of the Match : Ariyo (Guns)

All Black 0 v Raineri 4

Olisemeka Esumeh aka Oliseh scored the first hat-trick in the 2019 Bet9jaSociaLiga season as Raineri compounded All Black’s woes courtesy of a 0-4 thrashing.

The host went into SociaLigaMD5 as the only side without a win this season but hardly came close to changing that on Saturday against an Oliseh-inspired Raineri side who made mincemeat of the Black Panthers.

Black Panthers continue woes as Oliseh nets first hat-trick

Two of Oliseh’s goals arrived in the first half, in a game dominated from start to finish by the away team. Papa Rashford completed his hat-trick in the second half before Kingsley Eshilama added salt to injury when he completed the rout with a fourth goal for the Ghosts.

A brilliant outing for Raineri who were without their suspended manager, Seth Abayomi – not like he was even needed as they picked up a much-needed win that moved them into a playoff spot.

Man of the Match : Oliseh (Raineri)

Citizens 0 v Saints 2

This fiercely contested match ended with Saints consolidating on their lead at the top of the table with a 0-2 victory over the Citizens.

Saints defeated the Proud Citizens thanks to goals from their two forwards, Tolu Oladeinbo and Onifade Babatunde.

Saints consolidate with routine Citizens win

While both forwards netted decisive goals, it was Moshood Sulayman aka Tiki who ran the midfield alongside partner and former Proud Citizen, Victor Eneji.

If the opening goal by Saints, a wonderful header off a corner in the first half by Tolu, was due to poor defending from the Citizens, their winner by Babatunde was a well synchronised move that opened up the Citizens defensive third like a hot knife in butter, albeit with help from yet another Citizens defensive error.

Both sides were reduced to ten men, Citizens’ Onilenla Tide in the first half and Hassan Azeez aka Zizou Of the Saints Army in the second half – both for dangerous tackles.

Man of the Match : Tiki

Dannaz 3 v Cubs 1

Defending champions of the Bet9jaSociaLiga, Dannaz Football Club, came from a goal down to defeat the Cubs 3-1 in the last game of the SociaLigaMD5 on Saturday.

The 2018 winners needed to be at their possible best to see off the stubborn Cubs side led by their inspirational striker, Salau Opeyemi, aka Clanzee and managed by the tactical Onyenekwu Ebere aka Deco.

It was Clanzee who opened the scoring in the four-goal thriller as he expertly put the Cubs in the driving seat with a 1-0 lead before Danny Nazzal’s men quickly turned things around in remarkable fashion.

Joshua Obakimi, not to be outdone by Clanzee in the game, pulled Dannaz level with a superb strike from close range to bring scores to 1-1 at the break.

Defending champs put on a show to see off stubborn Cubs

1-1 turned to 2-1 for the home side as 2018 Christmas Festival hero, Onyeka Udeozor, found the back of the net to put them ahead for the first time in the match in the second half.

Samson Kayode left the best for the last when he added the icing on the cake for the Cedars with arguably the best goal of the day when he left Adeola Adebayo aka Barthez in goal for Cubs for dead with an excellent chip from just outside the box to seal a 3-1 win.

That win moved Dannaz up to second on the log with nine (9) points, one behind league leaders Saints, while Cubs dropped to fourth for the first time this season.

Man of the Match : Musa Amodu
