The match which has been tagged “The Community Shield” is put together by former Rangers International and Enyimba star, Abu Azeez, who lives in Alimosho.
The world famous Beach Soccer centurion and legend is a tout and avid fan of the Bet9jaSociaLiga debutants and has never hidden his admiration for The Herds.
Therefore, in a bid to expose the team to more (celebrity) fans in the community of Alimosho, Azeez has reached out to other NPFL stars like Lobi Stars forward, Alimi Sikiru, and Babatunde Solomon.
Speaking on the friendly, spokesperson of the club, Sanni-Anibre Teslim, says the match is one the club is delightedly looking forward to playing.
“We are so delighted to have these guys whom the lads adore come out and play, ” he said.
“(Abu) Azeez and Sikiru Alimi have for a time been ardent followers of Alimosho FC and never miss a chance to encourage the boys via messages and tweets anytime they play at the Bet9jaSociaLiga (arguably Nigeria’s most organized Amateur League). Alimosho is a football brand for the city and anything that has a touch of community is very welcome by us.”
Coach of the side, Raji Olatunji Yekini, who is also excited by the impact the game will have on his players, says facing the likes of Azeez, Alimi is a privilege.
“We expect the professionals to bring Premier League quality against the lads and we are optimistic it would be a very entertaining encounter, ” Coach Roy added.
The friendly match is slated for 8am June 8 at the Alimosho training pitch in Baruwa Ipaja.
Alimosho football club currently find themselves seventh on the Bet9jaSociaLiga standings after taking just five (5) points from a possible 12.
