The highly anticipated 2020 FA Cup final is here and of course, it is a London derby. Pretty much everyone expected Manchester City to get into the final but Arteta’s boys pulled a stunning performance to leave Pep holding his head in horror. While Chelsea fans might want to heave a sigh of relief to not be coming up against Pep’s juggernauts, they probably shouldn’t because Arsenal just might be a worse opponent to face in this final. In fact, they should probably be scared of Arsenal. Here are three reasons why –

1. Arsenal are a different beast in the FA Cup: The Gunners are appearing in their 21st FA Cup, which is more than any other side has ever managed. Add to that, Arsenal have also won more FA Cup titles (13) than any team in English football history. And if you are telling yourself this is ancient history, you might have to think again. Arsenal have won 3 of the last 5 FA Cup titles. When you remember how they knocked out a Man City team that had battered them mercilessly in league football, you instantly see why FA Cup and Arsenal is a scary combination.

2. Chelsea can’t stop losing FA Cup finals against Arsenal:Chelsea are playing in their 14th FA Cup final, with this being their 7th final appearance in the showpiece since Wembley Stadium re-opened in 2007. The Blues have won 7 of their last 9 finals. Their only 2 defeats came against Arsenal. Basically, 100% of Chelsea’s defeats in FA Cup finals since 1996 have come against Arsenal. 40% of their FA Cup final defeats in history have come against Arsenal. They have won 0% of their FA Cup finals against Arsenal. If you are a Chelsea fan, this should scare you. We all know history always has a way of repeating itself.

3. Arsenal almost never lose FA Cup finals these days:Arsenal have triumphed in 8 of their last 9 FA Cup final matches, including each of their last 6 finals. Only Tottenham (7 between 1901 and 1982) have gone on a longer streak of FA Cup final wins. As mentioned earlier, Chelsea were on the receiving end of 2 of those beatings. Arsenal’s only FA Cup final defeat in the last 40 years came against a Michael Owen-inspired Liverpool in 2001. Be scared, Chelsea fans. History says you will lose.

Do you think Chelsea can upstage history and get through Arsenal for the first time in an FA Cup final to grab the trophy?
